Dance has always been at the heart of the Indonesian culture and reflects the country’s diversity of ethnicity. There are a lot of shows performed every day in Bali. I opted for the most famous one, the “Devdan Show” at the Bali Nusa Dua Theatre (South Bali, Bukit Peninsula).
The word “Devdan” comes from Sanskrit ‘Deva’ and ‘Dhana’ which means “God’s Grace”. The show tells the story of two kids in holiday in Bali. During their visit to the Monkey Forest, they feel kind of bored and decide to leave their group to check out a cliff. Arrived on the top, they find a treasure box containing several items that will bring them in a journey to witness the treasure of Indonesia.
The dance show is a dynamic fusion of traditional dance, modern dance, gymnastic, acrobatics, and magic tricks.
The show is divided into five parts representing Bali, Sumatra, Java, Borneo and Papua islands. The culture of each island is very well highlighted. The dances were very beautiful. My favourite was the “aerial tissue performance”, so amazing for the eyes!! The costumes and decors are also superb, the music very lively.
Here a few pictures illustrating the show.
The show lasts 90 mins and is suitable for the whole family (children are invited to dance with the crew during the show).
You can take pictures with the artists at the end. Such a nice photo souvenir!
Book it here and enjoy this fantastic show!
