I have had the chance to go to Malacca a few days ago. You have to know that Malacca is the historical-heart of Malaysia, the city was controled by Portuguese, Dutch and eventually British.

They all left something behind which makes Malacca a must-see while going in peninsular Malaysia.

Right after dropping all my belongings in my room, I took my camera and went for a walk in Malacca without even knowing where to go. After dodging a few cars while trying to use the pedestrian crossing, I arrived in a small place that was looking as a hot spot for tourists.

The picture is the “Dutch Square” and is one of Malacca’s highlights. This is also the meeting point for Trishaws. It is one of the must-do while in Malacca and if you wonder what is a trishaw, here is a picture:

They are all fully customized and play really loud music !

The most impressive thing about Malacca is the architecture, in fact it is a paradize for all the photography lovers, you can spend hours in the city only looking for the best pictures.

The atmosphere in the city is just so peacefull. The most important thing about Malacca is that the interesting area is really tiny, you should not stay more than a day in Melaka. To be honest with you the all-around walk is about 2 hours. The best thing for tourist is to do a one day excursion from Kuala Lumpur. You can get these kinds of excursions here and here.

Yes after travelling all around Malaysia (both peninsula and Borneo), Melacca is the place I have had the best experience in. I leave you with 2 pictures of Malacca’s inhabitants, they both represents really well the spirit of the city.

  1. True. Malacca is the most amazing and charming city in Malaysia. I don’t think that the best way of enjoying the city is during only a day trip from KL. If you have time for a week-end it’s worth it: charming hotels, nice restaurants, beautiful city view on sunset from St Paul’s Church …

  2. Brice. Nice pictures!
I am portuguese and interested to come to Malacca, any nice portuguese restaurant there? My wife and I are dying for a good bacalhau.
